I tell my news writing students this. I use the analogy, if your mom visits your house and doesn’t mention that it’s dirty then you did a good job. Your goal is to not have Chicken Pig Cow I’d smoke that BBQ shirt on the floor. In some professions, people only notice mistakes. You shouldn’t be satisfied by praise, you should be satisfied by a job well done.
