In 1974, the first year of my BSN education, I was in a small community hospital and the Deal Me In Florence Nurse Life T shirt from their seats when a doctor entered the nurses’ station. I didn’t. We are all part of a team and each person deserves respect. When I didmy rotation in a larger hospital I never saw anything like that. In another hospital in 1975 the students were required to wear their nursing caps at one hospital and address each other by our last names. I never experienced another incidence of preferential treatment of MDs since then. I trained in Canada and have worked in the US since 1982, mostly in critical care in teaching hospitals. I’ve been treated with respect by most doctors, spoken to rudely by just a few.
